Composer / Orchestrator /Guitarist
Jon Phipps MA is a specialist in composition, orchestration and the electric guitar, with a wealth and breadth of experience as both a practical and creative musician that he has gathered through a life committed to music.
He has performed and composed music with numerous metal bands, chamber ensembles, and choirs, with his most recent collaborations as an orchestrator being with symphonic metal bands from the USA and Kuwait.
Having studied music up to and beyond post-graduate level at university, he has developed a deep and innate grasp of music theory, along with the practical application of it as a guitarist, teacher, and composer: anything from major modes to metric modulations, sequences to serialism, and pentatonics to polytonality are well within his reach.
For over ten years, he has independently taught guitar, bass, and theory, so communicating concepts and ideas to people, whether they are abstract or practical, is second nature to him.
In recent months, Jon has learnt drums and started teaching drums at Supastars Academy, a rock school based in Colchester, UK.
As well as all this, Jon often works as a transcriber of music, for publishing, performance, and creative purposes. Most notably, Jon worked alongside David Fanshawe, the world-famous composer, as his digital manuscript editor and transcriber for Oxford University Press.
